We use Swimmingly to time our swimmers’ events. Thank you for volunteering to be a timer! 🏊‍♀️💙

📱 Before the Meet

We ask volunteer timers to:

  • Arrive with a fully charged, Swimmingly-compatible phone. 🔋📱
  • Download the Swimmingly app before arriving at the meet.
  • If you have never timed using Swimmingly before, we highly recommend reviewing the resources below:

📱 Connecting to the Meet & Selecting Your Lane

Step 1: Select Timer in the Swimmingly app.
Step 2: Scan the QR code on the meet iPad (or the printed QR code, if available).
Step 3: Once the starter begins the test event, tap your screen to stop your watch.
Step 4: Click the bar that shows “Lane 1.”
Step 5: Scroll down and select the lane you have been assigned. The Volunteer Coordinator will assign timers to lanes.
Step 6: If you switch lanes during the meet, repeat Steps 4–5 to select your new lane.

💡 Best Practices & Helpful Tips

🏊 What If You Miss the Swimmer ID?

  1. Tap the screen anywhere to stop the clock when the swimmer touches the wall.
  2. Select the boxes to enter the Swimmer ID.
  3. Enter “000” as the Swimmer ID and select the correct club, if captured.
  4. Select Save & Continue.

🚫 Empty Lane as a Timer

If your assigned lane is empty, you have two options:

OPTION 1: Do nothing. The clock will reset automatically when the starter begins the next event.

OPTION 2: Stop the clock, select Save & Continue, and then select “My Lane is Empty, Reset Clock.”

🔄 100-Yard Relays

Two swimmers begin on each end of the pool.

When the race is finished:

  1. Tap the screen to stop the clock.
  2. Tap Save & Continue.
  3. Tap the Swimmer icon.
  4. Enter the IDs for the two swimmers on the timer’s end.
  5. Make sure you select the correct club when selecting the swimmer associated with each ID.
  6. Tap Done once you have entered the swimmer IDs.
  7. When the second swimmer reaches the timer’s end, enter that swimmer’s ID and press Done.
  8. Tap the screen to stop the clock.
  9. Tap anywhere on the swimmer IDs already listed.
  10. Enter the last swimmer’s ID and select Done.
  11. Press Save & Continue. ✅

🔄 Relays Greater Than 100 Yards

All four swimmers begin on the timer’s end.

  1. Tap the Swimmer icon.
  2. Enter all four Swimmer IDs.
  3. Tap Done.
  4. Complete the event as instructed in the Swimmingly app. 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️
